    <title>1978 Recommended Wilderness Plan Map for Colorado National
     Monument, Colorado</title>
    <geoform>vector digital data</geoform>
   </citeinfo>
  </citation>
  <descript>
This is a polygon and line coverage of the 1978 Wilderness
    Plan recommendation submitted to congress of wilderness areas and
    potential wilderness areas at Colorado National Monument. This
    dataset was mostly heads-up digitized from a graphic entitled
    "Wilderness Plan, Colorado National Monument, Colorado"
    and dated January 1978 found at the NPS Technical Information Center
    [TIC identifier: 119 20006 C]. This dataset is derived from the
    latest official NPS Wilderness Recommendation which was transmitted
    from the President to Congress on May 11, 1978, but never enacted.
    The official Wilderness Recommendation is based on careful studies
    of roadless areas, public hearings, and written responses. This
    dataset has been revised from the official map to adjust buffers
    along roads and utilities, account for changes to the boundary and
    land status, and reflect more accurate measurement available through
    new GIS technology.
   <purpose>To provide a graphical depiction of the recommended
    wilderness and potential wilderness areas at Colorado National
    Monument. The intended use of all data in the park's GIS
    library is to support diverse park activities including planning,
    management, maintenance, research, and interpretation.</purpose>
   <supplinf>Established May 24, 1911, and on 20,453.93 acres, Colorado
    National Monument consists of geologic features including: towering
    red sandstone monoliths, deep, sheer-walled canyons, and a variety
    of wildlife (bighorn sheep, golden eagles, mule deer and mountain lions).</supplinf>
